I mentioned it in my sermon a few weeks back—we have a new puppy. It is simply amazing how much energy that body has. I’m sure all of us would be quite annoying to have that much energy, but wouldn’t it be nice to harness at least some of it? As we age it seems our energy levels go down. We don’t have quite the spring in our step anymore. That seems to hold true spiritually as well. Was there a time when your spiritual energy was a lot higher than it is now? If so, is that just a natural result of spiritual age? Or should the spiritual process be something different? Paul suggests that the spiritual aging process should effect our energy in the reverse—the older we get the more energy we have! Listen to what he says—Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. (2 Cor. 4:16) Maybe we’ve bought into this misconception that as we physically age our spiritual energy decreases. It shouldn’t be that way! Paul gives us some insight into how to keep the power flowing, some energy boosts, so to speak. He reminds us that some day our troubles will be over, so don’t give up. He reminds us that there are realities that are not visible and those are the things that are forever. So don’t focus on the troubles, focus on the reward. Don’t get all weighed down with what you see, find strength by catching sight of the eternal and marvelous unseen! You feeling spiritually tired? God can take care of that and just maybe there’s a spiritual pup still inside!
